When you are too lazy to leave your apartment…

So today, I woke up late (yay!) and did not leave my apartment until 6pm. I promise you – I totally deserved it!! This week was a long one. A good one – but a long one. Mama needed rest!! With rest came laziness. I could not get off of my couch. I watched everything from La Bamba to Rudy – total tear jerkers, might I add! In the middle of crying, watching tv and sipping some tea – I started to develop a sweet tooth. I do need to mention a key factor in this sweet tooth development. Today was the first day it felt like Fall outside. My windows were open and AC was turned off! It got me craving cinnamon, apples and sugar and my candles didn’t cut it. (lol) So, with that being said – I searched through my kitchen and ended up making the BEST dessert ever. I cut up an organic gala apple, and sprinkled cinnamon and Stevia on top – popped it in the microwave for 2 minutes and voila! I was in heaven! You’ve gotta try it!! You’ll thank me later!! I call it sinless apple pie -tastes just like it but without all the calories! 🙂

I love the Pearl and its peaceful ways <3

I am a person who finds peace in nature. When I am feeling blue, have things on my mind or need some reflection time, I just take a walk outside and everything makes sense. I love finding trails, exploring new territories but most of all, I love visiting my favorite spots in town. One of those spots is the Pearl Brewery. Flowers, art, waterfalls and people are just a few of the beautiful sights to see along the river. You’ll leave feeling great and you’ll keep going back. I consider it San Antonio’s gem. 🙂

Trudy’s. Mexican Martinis & Memories

It is hard to beleive that 14 years ago I was living in Austin and was a student at UT. How in the world did time go by so quickly!? It still blows my mind. Not only that, but 10 years ago I graduated from UT. This makes me 32 years old!! WOW. Every time I visit Austin (which is often) it takes me back. I lived there for about 4 1/2 years and during those years, SO much happened. There were good times, not-so-good times, crazy times and fun times. The one place that I would frequent for celebrations, catch up sessions, girl talk, heart-to-hearts and just to have fun, was Trudy’s. Trudy’s was kind of my “go-to” in every situation. I would order the famous Mexican Martini, chips & salsa and talk the night away. It was the BEST. Back in the day, there was only one location – central off of West 30th St. Now, there are several locations. Nothing is like the original though – it just has that Austin look & feel. Tonight I had a reunion dinner with my two college roommates Katie and Heather. It was so fun to A) see each other B) talk about our lives C) talk about our past memories together and D) plan new future adventures! This is so awesome to me because we met when we were 18 years old. Our reunion just reminded me of the times we have shared and it made me also think of what is yet to come. I left feeling really proud and grateful of the strong friendships I made in Austin. Not only did I receive an awesome education (thanks Dad!!), I gained a second family. And to think, it all started over a few Mexican Martinis 🙂

The Palm “Where Everybody Knows Your Name!”

Picture this. You walk into a restaurant and you are immediately welcomed with BIG hugs and smiles ALL the way around! You are excited to find out which one of your friends is working or which of your friends is dining. Cool huh?! If you could experience this EVERY time you went somewhere, wouldn’t you want to go ALL THE TIME?? Yep. I thought so. 🙂 This is how I feel when I go to The Palm, San Antonio. I have made many wonderful friends at The Palm, and of course I owe it all to Robert Sanchez, aka the Prince of the River Walk. Robert was the Sales Manager at The Palm San Antonio until recently. He received a promotion as the Sales Manager of The Palm West in New York and moved about 2 months ago. (YAY) It was always a treat to visit Robert for lunch or a “quick” drink after work. As I became a “regular,” I built friendships, joined the 837 Club and created many memories that will last forever. For me, The Palm feels like home. Don’t let the name scare you. Even though it is fine-dining, The Palm is welcoming. The service is on point whether you are in a suit or sandals. And of course, the food is amazing. Some of my favorite items on the menu are the Sesame Seared Ahu Tuna (I know, random but SO GOOD!), the Dirty Shrimp, the Gigi salad, and the Nova Scotia Lobster BLT. Also, try the Chicken Parmigiana – it’s pretty spectacular, especially as your first meal after completing a half marathon. Trust me, I speak from experience. My favorite drink is the Lemon Drop Martini – you must try it! If you are looking for a great happy hour, lunch or dinner, go to The Palm. And maybe one day, you will see my face on the wall 🙂

The Sandbar Fish House & Market = PERFECTION!

Everyone deserves to treat themselves. Some may choose to enjoy a luxurious massage at San Antonio’s finest spa or book a last-minute vacation in gorgeous Maui. Whatever the case may be, we all know that it feels great to give ourselves a little love from time to time.  I often treat myself by going out and experiencing amazing meals that leave me saying “OH MY GOODNESS, THAT WAS BEYOND PERFECTION!” #hellomynameiskristyandiamafoodaholic I admit, sometimes I go a little overboard, but I can promise you, it is ALWAYS worth it.

My treat last week was The Sandbar Fish House & Market, which is an Andrew Weissman restaurant, located at the historic Pearl Brewery.  The Sandbar features fresh seafood, a variety of homemade artisan breads, as well as homemade seasonal desserts! All of this fine dining deliciousness is presented in a beautiful, casual environment. Also, the staff is extremely knowledgeable and attentive to guests, which was a huge highlight for me.

Prior to my visit, I was instructed by several friends to try the carrot ginger soup as a starter…so, I did! It was the BEST soup I have EVER had! It was decadent, warm, cozy, inviting and rich in flavor! Not to mention, it was a gorgeous shade of yellow! You MUST try it!! I promise, you will not be disappointed! Next, I ordered the Arctic Char as an entrĂ©e. It was poached, sautĂ©ed in a creamy sauce and topped with crispy potatoes.  The Arctic Char was delicate, pink, flavorful and absolutely fabulous! Andrew Weissman and his team deserve  a standing ovation.  If there was ever place to treat myself, The Sandbar Fish House & Market was the perfect spot. At that moment, I felt like the luckiest girl in San Antonio.

Signature Catering SHINES on!

If I were to imagine one of my favorite nights, it would include beautiful friends, gorgeous decor, phenomenal food and amazing conversation.  Luckily, this past week, I was able to have this exact experience, thanks to my dear friend’s birthday celebration held at the stunning Lambermont Mansion, located near Fort Sam Houston on Grayson Street.  This was my first time at the mansion, and it was incredible.  It had crystal chandeliers, rich hardwood floors and brick fireplaces. The mansion was built in the late 1800’s, which adds to its warm, romantic charm and is currently used for various special events such as weddings, showers and of course, birthday parties!  The ambiance alone, had me sold.  I am a huge sucker for beautiful places, so walking in, I knew that I was going to have a memorable evening.  Upon my arrival, I was immediately greeted with a glass of champagne (YUM!) and smiling faces. We did a celebratory toast in honor of the birthday girl and began taking group photos to capture the moment.   We proceeded to the elegantly set dinner table where we were wined and dined for the evening.  Everything was perfect.  And why wouldn’t it have been?  This event was produced by Signature Catering.  For those of you who are not familiar with Signature Catering, they are a full service catering and food service company with offices in San Antonio and Austin.  Partners Chef Shawn Monroe and Neill Reagan joined forces in 2009 and have had extraordinary growth due to excellent service, delicious food and an OUTSTANDING team.  To top it off, Chef Shawn and Neil are the nicest people you will ever meet!  I’ve had the pleasure of working with Signature Catering in different capacities and what I can tell you is whether you are hosting a party for 10 or catering a party for 2,500, Signature Catering ALWAYS exceeds all expectations by a long shot.  Memories are created by moments in time that leave a lasting impression on us.  Signature Catering always leaves a lasting impression and keeps you wanting more. They are just THAT good.  Shine on Signature Catering, shine on!

Max’s Wine Dive. A great spot for a date or two or three…

Sometimes, you need a good wing-woman. And SOMETIMES, that wing-woman is Max’s Wine Dive. Listen, first dates are stressful. #speakingfromexperience You have to decide on a great place, choose the perfect outfit, have a glass of wine to get “loosened up” (LOL) ALL to impress someone who you may NEVER see again. UGH! The agony!! Here is my Suggestion – go to Max’s! Let me tell you, it has been a while since I stepped foot into this dive, however there was a time that I would go regularly. I don’t know why this changed, but I’m glad I took the initiative to schedule a date there recently. The lighting is at a perfect dim setting, which makes the environment very cozy and relaxing. They also have local musicians that play every Monday – a very nice touch that I never knew existed! Of course, the highlight at Max’s is their wine list. They have a large selection of various wines from around the world. Luckily, my order is always pretty simple – “I’ll take a Pinot Grigio, please!” This time I ordered the WillaKenzie. It is a tasty Oregon wine that is smooth and crisp. I liked it so much that I ordered two glasses! YUM. If you are in the mood for an appetizer, you must try the Pulled Pork Stuffed Peppers (pulled pork and cotija-stuffed piquillo peppers, chipotle aioli and cilantro chimichurri) – they are REALLY delicious and pair perfectly with your beverages! Need something heartier? I would recommend the Pan Borracho (“drunk bread”) – one of their signature dishes that includes: torn sourdough baguette, prosciutto and fresh thyme soaked in a savory white wine custard and baked with Gruyere, mozzarella, provolone and Parmigiano-Reggiano. The flavors are crazy-good! It’s pretty amazing! #justsayin The good news here is that whether your date is a total bust or not, at the very least, your taste buds will be satisfied. I call this a WIN!

Brunch dreams REALLY DO come true at Tribeca!

I have been pinching pennies lately because I over indulged while on vacation in Maui a few weeks ago. DUHHH!! I would’ve been a fool NOT to – right?? So this Sunday, brunch was not an option for me…SAD DAY!! I made the grown up decision that gas in my car ruled over brunch. I know, I know – priorities, priorities. #beinganadultsucks Anyways, if you don’t know by now, brunch is my all time favorite meal of the day. Seriously, if I could have brunch 8 hours a day, EVERY day, my life would be complete. It is the mimosas that have me sold 100%. Nothing is better than having a large carafe of pineapple-orange champagne sitting right next to you and the ONLY worry on your mind is “what flavor will I order next?” This has been my experience at the one and only Tribeca – which is hands down my FAVORITE place to brunch on Sundays. Not only do they have bottomless mimosas, you are able to choose from several different flavors – YEAH! One of their popular flavors is the “Pink” mimosa; a combination of cranberry and grapefruit juice with champagne. You must try it!! My top menu picks are the Smoked Salmon Benedict plate (English muffins, shaved red onion, capers, poached egg and hollandaise and crispy potatoes) and the Tribeca French Toast (they are topped with nutella and seared bananas). NEED I SAY MORE??! Owner, Jean-Francois Poujol has done an excellent job…AND IT SHOWS. In other words, try to arrive early if you can – it’s starting to fill up quickly these days. Bravo Tribeca, bravo. They also have a weekly drawing for their Facebook fans in which they offer a complimentary brunch for 4. If you haven’t done so, visit their page and hit “Like” IMMEDIATELY. It is THAT simple! Why am I telling you this? BECAUSE I GOT INVITED TO A FREE BRUNCH THIS SUNDAY!!!! My brunch dream came true!! A friend of mine was the lucky winner!! This reminds me of the quote “If you dream it, it will come.” #orsomethinglikethat So, luckily I won’t be deprived of my beloved Sunday brunch tomorrow. My weekend is complete. ❤

Hello & Welcome!!

Hi friends!! Welcome to my blog!! I am often asked to give suggestions of all the “hot spots” around town, so I thought I’d create a site with all of my top picks!

***WARNING*** These are all of my personal thoughts and opinions. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do! 🙂
